Nestled in the picturesque setting of Kanazawa, Gyokusen-an cafe stands as a serene retreat for tea enthusiasts and culture seekers alike. This charming café is not just a mere spot to sip tea; it embodies the essence of Japanese tradition and the art of tea ceremony. Visitors are welcomed into a tranquil environment, where the aesthetics of the space create a perfect backdrop for peaceful contemplation and connection with nature.

As you enter Gyokusen-an, you’ll be immediately captivated by the stunning views that surround you. The café boasts large windows offering sweeping perspectives of the lush landscapes, making it an ideal location for reflection or simply soaking in the beauty of Kanazawa. The air is infused with the aromatic scents of matcha and the sweet delicacies that accompany it, inviting you to indulge in an authentic Japanese experience.

The highlight of your visit will surely be the traditional tea offerings paired with exquisite wagashi—sweets crafted with meticulous attention to detail. Customers frequently rave about the delightfully crafted Namagashi, a seasonal confection that beautifully complements the natural bitterness of matcha. However, as noted in some reviews, there are occasional suggestions for a stronger tea flavor; these insights seem to reflect a value for the balance between flavors that is celebrated in Japanese tea culture.

Notable experiences shared by patrons express the charm and expertise present at Gyokusen-an. A visitor named Lucian Tan admired the café’s excellent service and beautiful wares, expressing a wish for a more potent tea flavor but appreciating the overall ambiance and delicacies. Another guest, Kaity N, enthusiastically described participating in a wonderful tea ceremony where the kindness of the staff and the speed of service enhanced her experience, indicating that language should not be a barrier to enjoyment at this hidden gem. The café offers a peaceful environment that allows guests to meditate and reflect, as highlighted by Darshana Shah’s recommendation to spend ample time savoring each cup while exploring its tranquil surroundings.

If you're looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle, Gyokusen-an is more than just a café—it's a celebration of Japanese culture through tea and sweets. Great view, excellent wagashi, beautiful wares and good service. I wish the tea had a stronger taste, and there were clumps at the bottom of my bowl.

A wonderful tea ceremony in beautiful surroundings. Staff were kind and the sweets and tea very fast. We were lucky to have a Japanese speaker in our group to do the translating. I’m not sure if they do the explanations in English normally.

The most amazing find. If this is ur first stop. Please give urself a few hours at this castle because there are tons of this tea stop along the whole park. I suggest to stop at each and enjoy tea and a view. This was our first. Warning it is a quiet place for reflection and meditation. Great photo opportunity as well.

Incredibly beautiful place, perfect for a stop. Has very beautiful view on the garden and air conditioning (a relief in summer). We had cold matcha and a traditional sweet. The staff was very kind. It was very calm and not crowded at all. Much better than we expected. I wish we had booked the tea ceremony as well ! Must visit!
